From Maillane, the village of Frédéric Mistral, to the dazzling site of Les Baux de Provence, from the waves of clear rock to the countryside devoted to vines and olive trees, the Alpilles alone could sum up all the charms and myths of inland Provence. In a few kilometres, towards Mouriès, Eygalières, Fontvieille, Maussane or Saint Rémy, "the capital", all the landscapes and architecture of the Alpilles pass by one by one.
An olive grove dotted with poppies, a pine forest crowned by a ridge of rocks, an 18th century farmhouse, a village square in the shade of hundred-year-old plane trees, the azure blue sky where swifts meet... Mistral spoke of a "belvedere of glory and legends", Daudait made it the setting for his scented tales and the Alpilles still resemble the nativity scenes of the santons today
